Rapper Retirement Home-…more like a .22

West coast rappers age like white people. Sure, Snoop is still relevant, however, Jay Z is the “Hottest” rapper out. Yea, Ice Cube makes good music, but for every Cube, there’s like 5 Scarfaces in the South. Part of the problem, I believe, goes back to the West Coast’s dominance in the mid-90′s. When the West was on top, people were looking for ANYTHING from the West (similar to the South now). The Twinz, The Dove Shack, CJ Mac, The Game….oh wait, that’s recent. Anyways, cats got looks just based on the fact they were from the West. Once the west coast lost it’s strong hold, all those people who were just getting attention due to their chucks and khaki’s fell from grace. Some of these dudes actually had skill though. Which brings me to the latest inductee into the Rapper Retirement Home…Mack 10.

Early in his career, Mack 10 was a lot of things rolled into one. He was a super hero, jumping out of buildings like it was nothing. Don’t know what I’m talking about…let’s go back
(Check 2:23)
Mack 10 was the dope dealer, in “Westside Connection”. Mack 10 was a philosopher, theorizing that “…bitches been scandalous, biting forbidden fruit”. Mack 10 was a cool emcee. Now….shit. The whole “Bitch In Yoo” thing, you know, where Common slaughtered the whole Westside Connection…that’s long forgotten, however Mack 10 still isn’t doing too well. His movie, “Blood is Thicker than Water” which featured none other than Fat Joe, was refried ass hole. He’s now most known for beating the shit out of T-Boz. I’m sure not many people know he dropped an album….shit, I don’t know when he dropped it, I just know it was recent. (maybe last month?) Apparently, Dedrick Rolison (known as Mack 10 prior to his forced retirement) didn’t learn from Snoop, West Coast rappers affiliating themselves with popular sourthern labels just doesn’t work. Dedrick’s last album was either on Cash Money, or just affiliated with it, they may have dropped him, who knows cares? I’d imagine like most non-California crews, Cash Money linked with Dedric, so they could get their pass out West. Similar to G-Unit and Spider Loc, Young Jeezy and Roccet. Apparently, it didn’t work out too well for Wayne
If Cash Money had did their research, they would have known they picked the wrong rapper. Sure, Mack 10 was known to fly a red flag, but per his Westside Connection affiliate, WC, Mack 10 didn’t gang bang. To go even deeper into it, word from my people’s who were behind bars with some reputable people, Dedric was kidnapped, and held for ransom…yet nobody could afford, or cared, enough to pay. Eventually, Dedric was let go.
“Dedric, this is Joseph…oh, you guys used to be pals….just great!”
west coast hip hop was never quote unquote dominant. it was always was subpar in comparison to the shit that the east coast was putting out. it might have been selling more (which we all know means everything), but it was definitely not seeing east coast music. sorry.
I have to disagree mavbeatz. True east coast predicates…like Ghost,B.I.G & Nas will advise otherwise. The influence the west had on the game changed the way hip hop was seen external and internal. Ready to Die was big’s east coast version of Doggystyle, ask Cease. From the Chronic to Doggystyle, Death Certificate, Dogg Food, Bow Down, Safe & Sound. All are classic are damn near it. So you can’t dis the west my man.Never!!!!
