Stop Cooning:Giving the game a black eye….

               Cooning is more than just a bunch of jiggaboos dancing around.  To me, it’s anytime blacks play the stereotypical role, at the expense of blacks, for the benefit of others. In all actuality, a lot of times those dances are far from the worst thing going on. Young teenagers can only be faulted so much (although I know it seems like I’ve faulted them a lot) for those corny dances they do, mainly because they don’t know any better. When grown men continue to be on some dumb shit, however, there is no excuse.

               I don’t care what anybody says, this shit has gotten way worse than any of those dances I’ve commented on before. First of all, and what probably pisses me off the most, they cut sets short because of this shit. I’ve been going to “Rock the Bells” since it’s second show…they’ve never had no bullshit like this. No apologies from Raekwon for this shit happening and cutting sets short, no apologies from Joe Budden for refusing to shut the fuck up and making someone punch him in the face. Why? Because they don’t give a fuck! They still got paid. They don’t care that we, the fans, didn’t get to see a full Busta Rhymes performance. They don’t care that this bullshit transpired with KRS 1, Slick Rick, and Ice Cube in the building. They’re more involved in the quest for street cred, which, neither one of them has, and neither one of them will be attaining from this bullshit, no matter how it plays out. I may have sounded like I sided with Raekwon, but the more I think about it, I side with neither, because neither has my best interest, or hip hop’s best interest in mind.

               I was told by one  of my peoples earlier today on Twitter that today is the birthday of hip hop. Upon further research, it appears (cuz my peoples may still be right) yesterday was the birthdate of hip hop. Hip Hop is 36 years old. While the stances and positions taken by some (Jay Z, Nas) show the maturity of the genre, the ignorance of others make it seem like it’s in it’s 2nd childhood. Honestly, I don’t care how this situation plays out. They can both be found in a river somewhere. Nowmatter how much I love this whole Slaugherhouse movement (the backing by fans, the ego’s pushed to the side, not the album so much) or hope OBFCL 2 is another classic, I could care less about either individual. There are several others who can play the same position without the bullshit. Now Warren G is commenting on it…I’m not even gonna speak on that. I’m gonna rep Long Beach until I die (even if I was to move to Portland), but sometimes I can’t fuck with the Long Beach hip hop representatives. Thank god for Desean Jackson, TK, Cameron Diaz, Nicholas Cage, Willie Mcginnist, and the several others from Long Beach…and that’s word to Crooked I’s tattoo.
