Free Mike Vick!

For real this time though….

               Before I really go into this, let’s get  a few things straight. When Vick was brought up on charges, I said the shit was being blown way out of proportion. This was the trial of the century according to the hype. Everywhere I turned, I heard more about Mike Vick. When Vick was convicted, I said he deserved to do the time for the crime. It is what it is. What he did was illegal, end of story, that’s not debatable. We could argue all day about the morality of the situation, especially when compared to other LEGAL acts, however, what he did was illegal, so he had to face the music. If YOU get arrested for downloading bootleg CDs, you have to go to jail. Let’s not get shit fucked up though, sometimes shit goes way too far…..

               Let’s get this straight, the Mike Vick situation isn’t a racial thing. The Ben Rothlisberger cover up, that was a racial thing, this however, is not. This is Roger Godell, flexing his muscles and attempting to prove his manliness. I understand playing the in NFL is a privilege…but get the fuck outta here.  The whole time Godell’s been throwing up that “I have to make a decision” bullshit when asked about Vick, but tell me this, what more did he expect of Micheal Vick? Was he supposed to get out, call the Pope to cleanse his sins, do commercials for animal shelters from his house, and donate his gate money to PETA? Would that have gotten him to play at week 1? What was the “decision” Godell had to make? How much longer he’d fuck Vick with no vasaline to prove a point? Vick can do everything except participate in actual games, IF a team signs him, up until week 6, then Godell will decide if he wants to reinstate him. This is the equivalent of McDonald’s hiring somebody, training them on fries, allowing them to show up to work, but not letting them work. What’s the purpose? This decreases the chances of him getting signed. I’m sure he’ll still get signed though…I mean, you’d have a harder time finding out who the QB of the 49ers is, then finding out who’s on 1st.

               The bottom line is, the man did his time. If you really want him to get his shit together, why would you put obstacles up in his way? Who is this benefiting? Not Vick, he could be taking victories away from better teams single-handed by week 4 if allowed to play in week 1. Not the NFL. Let’s be real, there’s probably 12 good QBs in the NFL in total, and you know the ratings would be high on games Vick played in.  Godell doesn’t even necessarily benefit from this. Sure, his approval rating will go up from conservatives who fuck cows but love dogs, and I’m sure Hardy Nickerson is some where smiling, but the players themselves won’t be any fonder of Godell. I mean, this is probably the first time TO spoke out for something that didn’t involve his own paper…this is SERIOUS! Roger Godell’s approval rating amongst the players is probably below David Stern’s post dress code but still above Dana White’s.

               Actually there is one winner in this whole situation, People Involved in Terrorist Activities…or PITA (Oh wait, it’s PETA). This gives them more time to hope he fucks up. The odds are against them though, Vick has Tony Dungy in his corner. Fuck Raymond, everybody loves Tony Dungy. If Vick blows it under the guiding hand of Dungy, not only would he look like a complete idiot with no need for another chance, he’d also lose a lot of his supporters of his road to redemption. Myself included.
