The Great DOA Debate

Jay

Reality is real has a new blogger.I’ve known him for awhile through online. I’ve handed him several beatings on FIFA on Xbox live through the years. He told me before the site was up he wanted to be down, and based off our conversations, I figured he had to be. When he told me what he wanted to write about as his first topic, while I disagreed with his opinion, I figured fuck it. I don’t get upset with people who disagree with me, I think it’s makes for great conversations. So, to be fair, I’ve decided to go first on the whole Jay Z DOA thing, and I’ll let him conclude it

Brillyance:

Jay Z is hip hop’s gate keeper. He tells everybody what’s in, and what’s not. While, you don’t have to(and shouldn’t) live your whole live based off Jay’s words, he’s been the ultimate trend-setter and trend-killer in the world of hip hop. Cristal may be doing fine, but after Jay said fuck it, Cristal mentions on hip hop tracks plummeted to all time lows. Remember the throw back jersey trend? Well, while I’m still trying to get an official Randall Cunningham jersey, half of you muthafuckas wouldn’t be caught dead in one after Jay said it wasn’t cool. Grown and sexy???? Jay probably wouldn’t land on most chicks “sexy” list, but he blew “grown and sexy” up. THIS is what Jay does.

Look at what’s happen to the game in Jay’s absence. Sure, he dropped “American Gangster” not too long ago, but that was a concept album…the last real Jay album was “Kingdom Come”, and that dropped 2006. Skinny jeans, Big Ass Chains, goons, auto tune…WTF? That’s what happens when Jay isn’t around. Skyzoo said that sometimes you don’t get what your favorite artist is saying until like 5 years later, now I know why Jay said he “Can’t leave rap alone, the game needs me (him)”.  The mainstream rap world is filled with a bunch of animals, and Jay is the zoo keeper. He can’t retire, because these idiots will set the rap game on fire…in a negative way. These rappers don’t appreciate shit, so Hov has to come back and show them what the fuck is up, nobody else will. Kanye has a major influence, but he doesn’t have the heart to take it to somebody lyrically when necessary. He doesn’t have enough “boss” inside of him to make moves behind the scenes to put somebody in their place either. Wayne is too focused on….who knows what, and what people don’t realize is, if it wasn’t for Jay, 50 would run everybody into the ground, and laugh all the way to the bank as the house that Kool Herc built burns to the ground. Whether young garbage rappers like it or not, Jay Z is the gravitational force that keeps hip hop from spiraling out of it’s orbit and crashing into something else. Look at it, muthafuckas already trying to turn hip hop into something completely different and Jay has only been gone for almost 3 years. DOA was extremely necessary, as is Hov’s next album.

You can’t possibly side against Hov, cuz if you do, look who your standing with! The Jim Joneses, the Webstars. I could hear Webstar and Ron Browz in the radio interview shaking. They were shook…they were seriously shook. “No Hov, please don’t take our gimmicks away….I don’t mean to argue you with you,  I know your the boss,I’m sorry, I apologize, but please don’t kill my career that never started,” They don’t want shit to be exposed for what it is…not by Hov…cuz what Hov said, goes. Had it been Talib Kweli or somebody…it’d be nothing. Royce Da 5’9 said “Autotune sounds weak as a bitch” like last year….no interviews about it. Nobody addressed it. When Jay speaks…people listen. Jay speaks on it, Jeezy follows behind, Wyclef makes a song about Autotunes…it’s obvious, and you know what? I love it. Jay said what real music lovers were thinking, and those that just want something trendy…Jay will give them another trend, and they’ll be happy. Everybody wins.

Jay does this because he has to.I’m pretty sure as soon as a decent candidate to fill his shoes steps up, Jay will bow out gracefully, and travel the world smashing Beyonce’s (and several other chick’s) walls down. Do you really think Jay want’s to do a bunch of performances? A lot of rappers love performing because they get to travel and meet their fans…Jay can afford to travel whenever the fuck he feels like it.  He can’t be doing it for money. Rumor has it he buys alot of his own CDs, then when you figure in the money he’s not making because he’s focused on rap….he’s basically losing money. He does it because he loves Hip Hop…and he doesn’t want these mungkees [(C) Rick Ross} fucking the game up.

Reflective Space Timz:

What it be like world, I’m in da building! Props to my nigga Brillyance 1 time but he talkin out his ass with that lie about Fifa….. shameful.

1st.  I’m from Brooklyn and I am Jay Z fan.

2nd.  I stay blazed.
Now I say all that to say this, Jay z’s DOA (Death of the Auto tune) track has a lot of up sides. Hot production (by No ID), Jigga trying to sound like he still means it….  I support the anti skinny jeans movement, even the stop jocking T-pain movement as well, but I just don’t feel like this track right here cuts it. It feels 50 cent like, its about damn time Jigga came with something real sounding. I mean honestly this is the first time I heard a Jay track and was like “old man go sit down somewhere”.

WHAT IS HIP HOP ABOUT?? This thing we call Hip Hop and claim to love was built on individuals doing as they please how they please. Even though I fucks with Jigga Hip Hop is not fashion or white girl cheerleading where one individual gets to dictate everything.  No disrespect but contradicting yourself by saying too much singing in the game and then singing on the track seems real 50 like.  Kanye and T – pain changed the trajectory of the whole game (some say for the better, some say the worse) with their recent efforts and lead the followers into this current stage. Look at groups like Wu Tang, A Tribe Called Quest, Pharcyde, OUTKAST all the way up to the present. What do they have in common? Not giving a Fuck about what people think music should sound like. They just did what they do and look what comes of that, why everybody gotta fit in and do what old man Hov says?

What does it make you if you need another nigga to tell you what to listen to? What does it make you if another nigga tells you what to live like and be like? Well if isnt your biological daddy, you’re a dick rider, (Lil Wayne literally)  simple as that.  Maybe I need to come to terms with the fact that 92% of all humans are programmed to be followers but I cant buy into the notion that there is one nigga in a chair somewhere telling grown men how to act.

I was having a conversation with my nigga A Bizzles the 14th and he was like “Yo Space Timz, you cant keep waiting for reasonable doubt Jay to come back”. That made me reflect introspectively, was I being too critical of the kid just cuz I know he could went way harder on that track? Maybe I’m just the only nigga who realizes that Jay been getting away with the same subject matter for 14 years ( ie: Being too rich to kill you himself but then threatening to prolly do it himself yadda yadda much richer than you yadda yadda insert biggie line…..hook ). Maybe I’m crazy but didn’t another old rapper come back sounding exactly the same as he did when he “retired” with the geriatric sounding “crack a bottle” elderly man anthem?

In my eyes there are alot of candidates out there who could “take over the game”, but in this era of instant everything and oversaturation we need the music to be be as UNRESTRICTED and DIVERSE as possible.  The garbage out there like Jim Jones, Webstar, and all others will always have a market to pander to called idiots. Dumbasses with weak brains need music too!! East Side, 1 time.

P.s. There are dozens of better rappers the Fake I mean Drake, STOP MEAT RIDING everything you get force fed!

well Brillyance got a point I was aaying to people that autotune is dead a year ago and nobody gave a fuck they said I was a hater and defended their heroes Kanye and T-Pain now Jay says Death to Autotune and people wanna listen once again got to agree with Brillyance cause when Hov talk people listen and he is the only one people listen to not Nas not 50 just Jay he is prehaps the most influential artist in hip hop history not the greatest but the most influential and as much as it pains me Jay is the zookeeper he sets the kids straight in a way no one can

Now no one should conform to Jay style of rapping which is a point I’ll give to Space Timz and again dont like admitting this but yeah 90 percent of fans are followers who just go where the crowd goes and truely has no real opinion on the artist they listen to I ask plently of people why they listen to Wayne and the answer is always the same “cause he got good beats” which is complete fuckery but I digress but as for someone to take over the game maybe Drake but ill wait a year to see if people still give a fuck about him

    D.O.A. is hard.
not because of the obvious message, but more so because its a scathing critical response to the last few years of this bubble gum dance music. Im not mad at the dance music, ive been known to cut a rug or two myself. What i have a problem with is the people who see something good or new happening(Tpain in 03) and want to d-ride their wave for lack of their own creativity. People, when you try to duplicate, you’ll always fail. Fast forward to 2009 when 85 percent of the music industry is autotuning. Autotuning everywhere, on fast food commercials, just saw a miley cyrus commercial and she was autotuning. So i feel Jay when he said enouh is enough. The majority is making a mockery of themselves and our culture that we call hiphop. if you not the originator ie, roger troutman or his illigiemate son tpain, leave that shit alone. Thats analagous to when bone thugs came out with crossroads, if everybody wanted to start rapping with a fast flow, or if when busta came out if everybody got on their wild animated shit. How corny would that be
Dont get it twisted, never could i hate on gettin paper, im hating on the quality and lack of creativity of the music that is coming out. Maybe Jayz shouldve named that Death to dick riders.

I’m sorry, but y’all give Jay Z way too much credit. Dude single handily dummed-down rap and duly admits it. I can’t see how a rapper who brought in “The Ice Age” by making a catalog of songs about being iced out, expensive whips, champagne, money, money and mo’ money… can be the same dude telling everyone that something is played out or better yet, dead. If T-Pain got the whole industry using auto-tunes so what, because even worse Jay Z has the whole industry totally lost because he, “dummed-down so [he] can triple [his] dollars”. Truthfully he want to rhyme like Common Sense but he sold 5 mill, “and [he] aint been rhyming like Common since”. Those are his words. I’m sorry but y’all got it twisted. He’s the reason the whole game if fucked up! He is why everyone sounds the same and why they all rhyme about the same subject matter over and over again.

    mmmmm.

Everythin Brill said about how influential Jay is was right. even tho it shouldn’t be.

no way should hip hop follow one person, whether that be followin Jay or followin Ron Browz lol

i dont mind the occassional “novelty” artist, shit, i fucked with ying yang twin but as long as they origional with it or different.

i jus think we need more variety in hip hop.

wheres the mystikals, lost boys, DMX’s, onyx’s and too shorts?

….u know just the people you can enjoy without bein fussed about lyrical skills but also without buying into TALENTLESS idiots like rick ross.

btw sum1 needs 2 follow me on twitter, i set it up 2day and i got like 3 people lol http://twitter.com/thatladfromshef
