Clash of the Titans…

ProtoFamousVS

So I’ve played pretty far into Infamous as a good guy,and a little while into Prototype and I’ve come to a few conclusions:

1. Being console exclusive pays off
When comparing the graphics of the two games, it’s obvious Infamous is far above Prototype. It may not be the guys behind Prototype’s (Radical) fault. From what I’ve been told, working on X360 and PS3 is extremely different. This is the reason early on muti-platform games tended to lag behind on PS3, developers focused on the X360 due to it’s larger install base. The team behind Infamous (Sucker Punch) got to focus exclusively on working with the PS3, which I’m told  (and by judging the stuff I’ve seen) can produce better looking stuff. It may not be right to hold it against Radical, however, after playing Infamous and switching over to Prototype, I was let down by the look of the game.  However, developing a multi-platform game is no excuse for those generic ass buildings, and only 5 character models for the people in the city in Prototype.
Advantage: Infamous

2. Story matters…just not to the people behind Prototype
So I’ve been trying to get into Prototype more, however, the story is absolutely trash. I don’t mean trash like “A video game trying to tell a story” trash, I mean trash like “B grade porn movie story” trash. Not to say that the story in Infamous is great, but it leaves you somewhat interested in what happens next.  The only reason I play farther into Prototype is to gain more abilities, so I can fuck up shit even more.
Advantage: Infamous

3. Ideas and the abilities
Popular reasoning for playing video games, s the escape from reality, the competition/difficulty, and to be given the power to do shit people could/would never do. Prototype totally delivers. Maybe the abilities in Infamous seem so much weaker due to the fact that I’ve been playing as a good guy (I’m told I should have played bad), but Prototype definitely gives you the feeling of “Hey, I’m a uber bad ass, let’s fuck shit up,” I haven’t gotten too far into the game, and I’m already morphing into old ladies, tossing people off buildings, and destroying tanks and helicopters. When the shit gets too thick, I run up a wall, and the fly/glide away from everything. It was recommended to me the other day on Xbox Live while playing Prototype to snatch up people, climb tall buildings, then drop the people off the building and race them to the ground. Nuff said.
Advantage: Prototype

Overall, Prototype seems awfully generic, and has jacked several ideas from Radical’s other games (mainly the last Hulk game). Infamous is a great successor to Crackdown, the Xbox 360 exclusive game. Infamous is Crackdown+powers+high powered villains+an actual story. Infamous for the win vs Prototype, but they both definitely have room for improvement.
