According to the Chicago Sun Times, 2 Chainz and former NBA player Kenny “The Jet” Smith join together Wednesday, along with other stars, to help with the recreation of courts in the urban communities at “Four Corners,” an event with the Full Court reFRESH initiative that donated $40,000 to renovate basketball courts in Chicago.
The event, taking place at Columbus Park in Chicago, included a discussion panel consisting of not only the athlete and the Atlanta rapper, but also Hoops Magazine writer, Bryan Crawford and Dee Brown, director of player development and alumni relations at U of I, and former basketball player Ronnie Fields. All agreed on the importance in addressing the needs of the youth in Chicago and in inner-cities across the country.
“What we’re doing is providing an important resource for the younger generation. A lot of the kids don’t have anything to do with their time right now,” the 2Chainz stated. “A lot of them look up to athletes or entertainers, so when you do these things, build a studio or refurbish a basketball court, it helps change the trajectory in our neighborhoods, along with seeing somebody like myself, speak to what’s happening in the streets.”
