10 Hip-Hop Biopics We Believe Could Be Great Movies

Straight Outta Compton has been a runaway success in terms of ticket sales and critical acclaim, receiving great reviews while also being the number one movie two weekends straight. While stories about celebrities can put butts in seats, it takes more than just names to do the numbers Straight Outta Compton did during it’s first two weekends and to get the type of acclaim the movie is receiving. While part of that can be attributed to the fact Hollywood veterans F Gary Gray and Ice Cube were involved in the making of the film , a large part of it has to do with the fact it was a story worth telling that may have come from a different time, but still connects with today’s audiences. The story behind NWA provided so much quality source material, long-time fans know it didn’t all make it into the movie.

We ignore some of the obvious choices most would turn to off the strength of the names (Jay-Z, Nas, Outkast) and instead focus on quality stories that we feel deserve to be told to the masses.
